KARACHI: Sindh Health Department constituted a seven-member committee on Monday to probe the matter of severe illnesses including measles and consequent deaths of children in Shaheed Benazirabad District.
The committee comprises the provincial immunization officer, World Health Organization (WHO) Karachi Chairman Dr Waqar Soomro People’s Medical University of Health Sciences Pediatrics Professor Dr Ali Akbar Siyal and others.
The committee is required to probe into the matter of serious illnesses and resulting deaths of children in Shaheed Benazirabad, and find causes behind that. The committee has to give its report within 24 hours to the Health Department.
Sindh Health Services Director General Dr Akhlaq Khan, while talking to a media a organisation, said that immunization campaign is underway throughout the province after the unfortunate incident occurred in Shaheed Benazirabad District where the condition of nine children deteriorated as they administrated measles vaccine by vaccinators.
He informed that three children died from vaccine reaction or other reasons while three were referred to Agha Khan Hospital for further treatment while two others were admitted to Shaheed Benaziarabad Hospital. He said one child was discharged from hospital after recovery.
