The polling started at 137 polling stations of the constituency in the morning amid stringent security arrangement, with 19 stations being declared sensitive by the authorities. Rangers and police personnel, including, two SPs, five DSPs, seven inspectors, and a thousand officers, had also been deployed in the constituency for security purposes.

Yasir Zafar Sindhu, a PML-N leader, was declared as an independent candidate by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) following a Supreme Court verdict against Nawaz Sharif, that declared him ineligible to head the PML-N owing to his disqualification under Article 62 (I)(f) in the Panama Papers case. The same verdict had also nullified Nawaz’s nomination of Senate candidates who then contested elections as independents.

PTI’s Mehmood had joined the party after he parted ways with Fazl’s Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F).
