PESHAWAR: Doctors had to amputate a girl’s hands after she was critically injured in an explosion by a bomb that children brought home after mistaking it for a toy in North Waziristan Agency on Sunday.

Reportedly, the bomb was found by the children in a field near Zakir Khel area of District Mir Ali. They thought of it as a toy and took it to their home where it exploded and injured a 20-year-old girl.

The girl was then transported to Bannu for medical assistance where the doctors amputated her hands due to the injuries that she sustained in the blast.

It is worth noting that similar incidents have taken place in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in the past. Last year, in the Pishtakhara area on the outskirts of Peshawar, a child was killed and six others were injured after an explosive device that they mistook for a toy went off.
