ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United States will make another major attempt to improve bilateral ties next week during the meeting of Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua and senior American officials in Washington.

Foreign Secretary Tehmina’s visit comes after US Deputy Assistant to the President and National Security Council (NSC) Senior Director for South and Central Asia Lisa Curtis’ surprise visit to Islamabad who, after speaking with senior Pakistani officials, highlighted the need for improving the relationship between the two countries.

During the visit, Tehmina will meet senior US State Department officials but it remains unclear whether she will meet Lisa Curtis along with the other officials or will she hold a separate meeting with her at the White House.

On February 26, Lisa Curtis visited Pakistan and demanded strict action against the Haqqani Network.

A senior US National Security Council official had been quietly visiting the federal capital amid reports that both sides were involved in ‘behind-the-scenes’ efforts aimed at fixing the strains in their ties.
