LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday said that the PML-N-led government’s “life and death was dedicated to the people.”

“We have always served the masses and will continue to do so in future with same vigor and zeal. We have completed various development projects for public welfare and as a result, we are successful in the public’s court today,” he said while adding that he himself had “always opposed the menace of corruption and his hands were neat and clean.”

“The elements levelling baseless allegations should also think about the reaction of other countries who plan to invest in Pakistan,” said the chief minister.

Speaking to the parliamentarians belonging to different districts of the province, he also said that the PML-N had always done politics of public service while the opponents remained engrossed in levelling baseless allegations.

“The liars did their job while we fulfilled the agenda of public service. The opponents cannot blemish the development scene with the dust of their so-called allegations. Truth always prevails and even a thousand lies cannot constitute truth,” he said.

Shehbaz also said that those who played the politics of lies for four and half years were now afraid of the Punjab government’s quick completion development schemes in the province.

“Record development works have been carried out in every district and the Punjab government has provided more funds for southern Punjab as compared to its population ratio. The credit goes to the PML-N government that it has constructed thousands of kilometers of roads in villages with billions of rupees,” he said and added that the government had also started an organised program of cleanliness in the villages.

“The government is desirous of developing every big and small city of the province like Lahore and Multan so that they could become equally beautiful,” said Shehbaz.

Among those who called on the Punjab chief minister were federal minister Engineer Khuram Dastagir Khan, Senator Saleem Zia, and members of the Punjab Assembly including Imtiaz Ahmed Lali, Ali Abbas Khokhar and Amir Hayat.

Seperately, CM Shehbaz took notice of the alleged rape of a nurse in Faisalabad hospital and also the torture of media representatives.

Shehbaz sought a report from Faisalabad division commissioner, and directed an immediate enquiry of the incidents. He also directed the commissioner to take a legal action against those involved.

Earlier, CM Shehbaz fell ill and was advised by his doctors to observe complete rest for three days.

According to a Punjab government spokesperson, the CM cancelled all his meetings for three days.

Shehbaz was appointed as acting president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on February 27 after the Supreme Court’s (SC) February 21 verdict declaring that Nawaz could not head the PML-N as any person disqualified under Article 62 or 63 of the Constitution is barred from holding the position of ‘party head’.
