PSL 2018: Skipper Sammy wins on one leg for Zalmi against Gladiators

SHARJAH: Injured skipper of Peshawar Zalmi Darren Sammy alone steered his side to victory in a thrilling finish against Quetta Gladiators by smashing two sixes and one four.

Defending 141, Gladiators had eyed victory after taking five wickets of Zalmi. Man of the Match Sammy scored 16 off 4 balls, helping Zalmi clinch victory in the last over.

Receiving the award, Sammy said, “I just needed to hit three sixes, that’s what I told the coach … (it is a) great feeling to make the team win.”

He kept limping while both innings due to a leg injury that came occurred due to a stretched muscle.

Tamim Iqbal and Mohammad Hafeez also made the useful contributions of 36 (38) and 29 (33), respectively.

Gladiators scored 68 runs for the loss of three wickets in the first 10 overs after being put into bat. Top-scorer Shane Watson smashed 47 off 32 balls. They didn’t end well because of losing wickets and finished on 141 for 8 in the 20 overs. Wahab Riaz, Sammy, and Umaid Asif picked up two wickets each.
