PM chairs meeting of PML-N parliamentarians

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Friday chaired a meeting of the parliamentary committee of the Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) to discuss the upcoming Senate elections.

Parliamentarians of the PML-N attended the meeting at the Parliament and finalised the strategy for the elections on Saturday.

During the meeting, parliamentarians of the ruling party received phone calls from unknown numbers. MNA Rumaish Kumar said that some parliamentarians were receiving calls from unknown numbers and they were being directed to perform particular actions.

“Similar calls were received during the election for choosing the party’s president and there is a possibility of such calls during the upcoming Senate elections.”

Taking notice of the situation, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi expressed anger and directed the MNAs to inform him if they received such calls in the future, adding that he had talked to the higher-ups regarding the issue.

“Such calls have no place in Pakistan’s politics and will not be tolerated in the future,” he said.

The climate of the meeting became aggravated when Mushahid Hussain, who recently joined PML-N after leaving Pakistan Muslim League – Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q) and Asad Junejo were introduced as PML-N’s candidates.

MNA Hamid Hameed reacted angrily to the announcement and said that the two of them should be made to vow that they would stick with Nawaz Sharif in times of distress and would not leave the party.

Hamid’s demand was positively received by others and Mushahid and Junejo appeared perplexed and worried.
