Opposition stages walkout in PA against fuel price hike, NAB resolution

LAHORE: Opposition members on Friday staged a walkout in Punjab Assembly (PA) against the fuel price hike as well as a resolution passed against National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Several lawmakers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) walked out of the assembly proceeding when a resolution was passed to condemn NAB’s alleged abuse of power.

One of the lawmakers from JI walked out from the session to protest the decision to disallow a supplementary resolution about the recent increase in petroleum prices. He did not return to the house till the adjournment.

Leaders of opposition parties in National Assembly had also condemned the undue hike in petrol prices.

The house was adjourned to meet on March 5 (Monday).

Yesterday, the Punjab Assembly elected Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz-backed candidate Dr Asad Ashraf in the Senate by-poll on a seat that fell vacant after the disqualification of former party senator Nehal Hashmi.
