ISLAMABAD: NHA officials on Friday failed to satisfy the Senate Standing Committee for Communication pertaining to the money amounting to Rs18 billion earned from a Chinese company in the Multan-Sukkur road project.
The committee that met under the chairmanship of Senator Mohammad Daud Khan Achkzai in the Parliament House was told that steel cat eyes on the motorway were replaced with plastic ones.
The motorway IG told that advertisements were made for the appointment of 500 police officers whereas the demand was for 11000. The job was done by levies in the area instead of the police and the people from FATA, Balochistan and KP should be recruited.
NHA chairman told the committee that the FATA expressway was 933 km. He also said that steel cat eyes were replaced.
The chairman further said that the CPEC was a project of the whole country, and added that three companies were working on the project and the cost was 406 billion rupees that were lower than the level of 294 billion rupees.
To a question, he said that the construction work of the Noski bypass PC1 cost 624 billion rupees and the PSDP would be included to it in the future.
Committee member disclosed that on the Hazara motorway the toll tax was being collected without an NHA ticket.
Secretary Postal said that they were facing a loss of 10 billion rupees annually and proposed to give pension to the pensioners direct from the ministry of finance.
