KARACHI: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Friday sent ex-DSP Qamar Ahmed Sheikh, a close accomplice of suspended SSP Malir Rao Anwar, on a judicial remand in Naqeebullah murder case.
Suspended DDSP Qamar was deployed in Malir city, where the Waziristan native Naqeebullah Mehsud was killed extrajudicially.
Sheikh was brought in front of the administrative judge of ATC in Sindh High Court (SHC) building. Unlike other prisoners, the former DSP was brought to the court as he sat on the passenger seat of the police vehicle.
Earlier, the police officer was sent back after he recorded his statement but after the emergence of a video in which he could be seen standing with Rao Anwar at the time of the incident, the court summoned him again.
Besides Sheikh, nine other police officials have been arrested in Naqeebullah murder case including Sub-Inspector (SI) Mohammad Yasin, Assistant Sub-Inspectors (ASI) Supurd Hussain and Allahyar, and Constables Arshad Ali, Shafi Ahmed and Abdul Ali.
The other involved officers, however, are still absconders including the prime accused former SSP Malir Rao Anwar, SHO Amanatullah Marwat, and Muhammad Shoaib alias Shoaib Shooter and 10 other policemen.
Naqeebullah Mehsud was killed in a ‘police encounter’ on January 13, 2018, by Rao Anwar and his encounter specialist team. Mehsud was charged with alleged militancy and ties with the banned militant organisation, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.
The public outcry broke out on social media over the killing of Naqeebullah, leading to suo moto notice by Supreme Court (SC) and a prolonged sit-in in Islamabad.
