ISLAMABAD: The government, expressing annoyance over the removal of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif from his post and limiting accountability only to politicians, advised institutions to work within their limits.

Speaking on a point of order, Federal Minister for Climate Change Mushahid Ullah Khan said that they were part of the parliament and the nucleolus of power was the judiciary. He said that hurdles were created for them since the day one in the form of protests, lockdown and other similar measures.

The minister asked that was accountability only for politicians, adding that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan and Fatima Jinnah faced accountabilities but not former governor general Ghulam Ishaq Khan. He said that the decisions of judges were part of the history.

He said that over 400 cases were pending related to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

He further said that an elected prime minister was sent home because he did not take the salary from his son.

He was of the opinion that in the past many amendments were made and procedures regarding the appointment of judges were also revised. He said that a hundred thousand cases were pending and asked the judiciary to clear them first.

He said that there were 456 names in Panama Papers but the action was taken against only one person whose name was not even on the list. He said that it was hard for the government to work when “small courts” were giving verdicts against it.

The minister further said that judges should work within their limits and if they crossed their limits, the parliament would legislate against the judiciary.

Speaking on the floor of the house, Barjees Tahir said that PML-N, the party with the majority in the house, was not allowed to contest the Senate elections.
