HYDERABAD: Speakers at a conference organised by Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) called for the elimination of bonded labour, reported a local English newspaper.
The speakers urged the government and concerned authorities to take concrete and meaningful steps to eliminate bonded labour, rehabilitate liberated workers and stop the fresh wave of bonded labourers triggered by the occupation of sweet water lakes in Sindh.
In the programme titled ‘Abolition of bonded labour: state and issues of bonded labour in Sindh’, they said that despite the passage of 26 years, the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1992, had not been implemented in letter and spirit.
