ISLAMABAD: Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Food Minister Syed Shaukat Ali Shah on Friday said that the establishment of a food authority in the liberated territory would largely benefit the people of the area.

“Quality and standard of food will be ensured after implementation of the “Food Authority Act” in this part of the region,” he said while talking to the media.

“The AJK assembly and cabinet had given the approval for establishing the food authority which would help improve the health of the people of the area,” he said.

He appreciated the efforts of AJK’s prime minister, food secretary, and other stakeholders for taking initiatives in this regard.

AJK Food Secretary Raja Muhammad Abbass said that it was the second food authority in the country after Punjab.

To a question, he replied that food samples will be taken from shops and hotels which would then be sent to the laboratory of Punjab for tests.

He said that strict action would be taken against anyone found to be involved in selling low quality or substandard food items in AJK.

Shah urged the citizens to cooperate with the food authority staff so that the quality of food can be ensured in all parts of the AJK with success.
