Rangers arrest CTD officer wanted for murder from Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Rangers on Thursday arrested a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officer Ashar Usmani, wanted for the murder of a Karachi citizen, from Karachi airport.

According to details, Usmani allegedly abducted and killed Azfar Imtiaz Siddiqui in April last year. Siddiqui’s close friend Ali assisted the CTD officer in murder, reports stated.

The deceased had returned to Pakistan few months before his murder and was the son-in-law of the vice chancellor of DOW University of Health Sciences.

According to confessional statement of Usmani, he and Ali invited Siddiqui at their Federal B Area bungalow in Karachi and demanded ransom worth of Rs 40 million.

On deceased’s refusal, both Ali and Usmani killed him and buried his body in the kitchen of the bungalow, the investigation officers claimed.

The Rangers received a tip-off regarding CTD officer’s expected arrival to Karachi airport from Peshawar, from where he was nabbed.

The law enforcement agencies have recovered the body of Siddique after identification from Usmani.
