ISLAMABAD – Former Interior Minister and senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan wants to be appointed as the party’s Iqbal, after former party president Nawaz Sharif was declared the Quaid, The Dependent has reliably learnt.

Sources confirm that Nisar had laid out this condition ahead of the Central Working Committee at PML-N’s Model Town Secretariat on Tuesday, and it was only after being refused that he did not show up for Shehbaz Sharif’s appointment as the party president.

“If we’re creating new ceremonial positions for others, why can’t they do the same for me?” Nisar said, sources have told The Dependent.

It has further been learnt Nisar had earlier demanded that in case Nawaz Sharif’s name has to be removed from the party, the PML-N acronym should remain the same, with N and ‘noon’ standing for Nisar.

“Chaudhry saab was told that if it comes to naming the party after him, the more accurate acronym would be Pakistan Muslim League-Chay,” a senior PML-N leader said while talking to The Dependent.

Reports further confirm that in addition to being appointed as the ceremonial Iqbal, Chaudhary Nisar also wants to be declared the ‘Hakeem-ul-Ummat’ and Poet of the East.

“There’s even this fluffy shaheen on top of my head,” Nisar said while talking to a close aide.
