ISLAMABAD: The Indian High Commission on Thursday refused to issue visas to a number of Pakistani pilgrims intending to travel to India for the Urs of Hazrat Khawaja Moinuddin Chisti in Ajmer.
According to media reports, hundreds of Pakistanis travel to India every year to attend Chishti’s Urs. Under a bilateral agreement, India is bound to give visas to 500 Pakistanis every year to attend the event.
In 2017, India stopped Pakistani pilgrims from attending Urs of Khawaja Nizamuddin Aulia in Delhi. Furthermore, 200 Hindu pilgrims were stopped from coming to Pakistan for a festival earlier this year.
The pilgrims were set to take part in Maha Shivratri celebrations, a Hindu leader said.
