LAHORE: President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday said that concerted efforts were needed to end unfair practices as well as injustice at all levels.
He was addressing the concluding ceremony of the three-day “10th Annual Nazria Pakistan Conference” at the Nazria Pakistan Trust auditorium.
The president said the nation had ample potential to compete and excel in all fields of life, and urged to make efforts for progress while overcoming small internal issues and mutual differences.
He said Pakistan would have achieved greater success and more progress if corruption had not prevailed
in the country. President Mamnoon cited that there was one textile mill in 1947 but the number had increased manifold and the sector enjoyed immense progress in the past many decades.
“Allah Almighty has blessed the nation with myriad blessings,” he said and expressed hope that the country would progress further in future.
He remarked that Pakistan came into existence after a dynamic movement which had the core principle of self-reliance and self-dependence at its centre. However, he said, such goals could not be achieved without unity.
The president stressed that political stability was important for development and financial independence, and said there was no shortage of resources or manpower. “Every citizen of Pakistan has the zeal to serve the nation,” he said.
President Mamnoon also said that there was a need to correct the mistakes and shortcomings on collective issues for a better future.
He said that several countries were ambitious to connect with the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) even before the start of its operations and the CPEC would not only reduce distances but would also open up new vistas of progress in the region.
However, he said that progress and national development goals needed stability and harmony at all levels. “Our country undoubtedly is faced with troubles, but countering challenges with wisdom is the key to success,” he added.
The president said that he felt re-invigorated after participating in such a gathering where the ideology of Pakistan was discussed and highlighted, and added that the heroes of Islam and the Pakistan movement should be given more space in the academic syllabi of schools and colleges. In this context, he said he broached the matter with the prime minister and the curriculum was under review to improve it further according to the national ideology.
Earlier, Punjab Governor Muhammad Rafique Rajwana said in his address that he had high hopes from the youth of the country, and Pakistan was a gifted country with countless blessings given by Almighty Allah.
Nazria Pakistan Trust Vice chairman Professor M Rafique Ahmad also presented souvenirs to President Mamnoon and the Punjab governor.
