Punjab govt’s special focus increased girls’ enrollment in public schools: PEF chairman

LAHORE: Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Chairman and MPA Qamarul Islam said that the provincial government paid special attention to the education of girls due to which the enrolment rate of girls in government schools had improved and even enrolment rate in remote areas had also gone upwards.

He said that scholarships worth billions of rupees had been given to needy but intelligent students and many of them had completed their education and stepped into their professional lives.

The PEF chairman said this while addressing a prize distribution ceremony held at the Government Girls High school Aarazi, Rawalpindi on Wednesday. Principal Fauzia Naheed, teachers and a large number of students attended the ceremony.

Qamarul Islam said that girls in 16 districts of South Punjab had been encouraged to get an education through Khadim-e-Punjab Zewar-e-Taleem Programme worth billions of rupees and they were being provided Rs 1200 per month for ensuring their 80 percent attendance in school.

He said that after the revolutionary measures taken by the Punjab government in the field of education, no intelligent student in Punjab was forced to quit education due to economic constraints.

Principal Fauzia Naheed said that the women had proved their talent in every field of life and the trend of getting an education had increased among the girls due to the measures that were taken by the Punjab government. She said that female students outshined the boys in the examination of educational boards every year and their success ratio had also improved.
