ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday raised the minimum pension of retired bank employees to Rs8,000 per month observing that low pensions are a clear violation of the fundamental rights of a pensioner, reported a local English daily.
This was announced in a detailed verdict written by the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar while deciding on a set of suo motu proceedings taken on by the SC pertaining to petitions filed by retired employees of different departments complaining about the non-payment of their pension benefits.
Retired employees of Privatisation Commission, Local Government Department, Sindh filed the complaints.
Some of the applicants/petitioners, retirees of the United Bank Limited (UBL), Allied Bank Limited (ABL) as well as the Habib Bank Limited (HBL) also came to the SC with the grievance that they were not being paid enough.
