Campaign launched to protect cattle from diseases in KP

PESHAWAR: The livestock department on Wednesday launched a campaign to raise awareness about animal diseases and take precautionary measures for protecting animals from diseases, especially epidemic ones, across the province including tribal areas.

The livestock department held a ceremony to mark the formal launch of drive and started field day in which Agriculture and Livestock Secretary Muhammad Israr Khan was the chief guest.

Among others, Director General Expansion Dr Sher Muhammad, director headquarters and Director Veterinary Clinic Dr Alam Zeb were also present.

Addressing as chief guest, the secretary said that the provincial government was taking serious measures to promote cattle industry as agriculture sector had a good share in the national economy. It could give a boost to the pace of economic growth, he added.

He went on to say that growers and cattle raisers’ contribution to the national economy could not be overlooked as they played a role in strengthening the country’s exports, besides helping meet national food requirements and reducing unemployment.

Therefore, he added that the government had initiated the programme to raise awareness about cattle’ rearing issues and their diseases among cattle raisers to get their animals timely vaccinated and provide healthy fodders to their domestic cattle and promote cattle industry of the province.

He went on to say that in collaboration with commercial dairy farms, facilities would be provided to stock raisers to enhance milk production and prevent their animals from epidemic diseases.
