KARACHI: In a bid to ensure clean surroundings, Sindh government announced to prosecute those people who are found littering public spaces.
According to a notification issued by the Sindh home departments on Monday, anyone found throwing garbage on public property will be prosecuted.
Legal action will also be taken against those who burn rubbish piles in public places of the metropolis, including bazaars and roads, it added.
The notification advised that dumping trash in open areas pollutes the environment and affects the health of residents.
Meanwhile, a judicial commission appointed on the orders of the apex court had also taken notice of domestic, industrial and medical waste being thrown in open areas.
Over two weeks ago, the commission had asked the heads of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), cantonment boards, Defense Housing Authority (DHA) and others to submit reports regarding their performance to lift solid waste in different areas.
Justice (retd) Amir Hani Muslim heads the commission to probe failure of the provincial authorities to provide clean drinking water and improve sanitation conditions in Sindh.
