Five teenagers allegedly gang rape 12-year-old boy in Shangla

A 12-year-old boy was allegedly gang-raped by five teenagers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Shangla district, police said on Monday.

According to a complaint registered with the Alpuri police station by the boy, the victim claimed that he was gang-raped by five men who were in their late teens. The incident took place near the residence of the victim in Barari Khwar area on Sunday.

Later the police conducted a medical examination on the boy which confirmed that the victim was in fact targeted in a sexual assault. The police also registered a first information report (FIR) against the five suspects.

After their arrests, the suspects were presented before a local court which ordered a three-day physical remand of the five accused teenagers. The DNA samples of the accused have also been sent to Peshawar for forensic examination.

Talking to reporters, District Police Officer (DPO) Rahatullah Khan said that timely action by the police ensured that the suspects were arrested shortly after the FIR was registered at the respective police station.

According to statistics released by the KP Child Protection and Welfare Commission last month, at least 222 cases of child abuse were reported in the province between May 2011 and December 2017.
