Sugarcane growers stage protest against mill owners in Badin

BADIN: Sugarcane growers in Badin staged a protest demonstration on Sunday in front of Badin Press Club against non-payment of their liabilities, deliberate excessive deduction of sugar cane, lower rate and monopoly of mills management.

The protest led by Sajjad Ahmed Memon, Kazi Saleh Channa, Mir Imtiaz Talpur, Dr Rafique Memon, Mir Mushtaque Talpur, Raees Darya Khan Khoso, Aijaz Ali Perhiar and other growers.

They chanted slogans against the justification, monopoly and high headedness made by officials of cane department. While talking with the journalists at the press conference, representatives said they are sustaining huge loss and damage due to a lower price of sugar cane with simultaneous excessive deduction overweight by the management has made them suffered a lot.

They said mills owners are not accepting the price even after the verdict in favour of growers. They said that millions of rupees of growers were withheld deliberately and the mill owners are earning thousands of rupees per day.

They further said that tenders are being issued on personal preferences and favoritism. They demanded and appealed to Army Chief and Supreme Court of Pakistan Chief Justice that those officials who are committing corruption and causing huge losses to the sugarcane growers must be held accountable.
