- MNA, two ex-MPAs, several district leaders announce parting ways
- Party faces low-key rebellion in Gilgit Baltistan
GUJRANWALA/RAWALPINDI: Already mired with troubles following the disqualification of its chief and subsequent expulsion from the Senate elections, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) leader Mian Tariq Mehmood has bid goodbye to the party, citing indifference of the leadership to his constituency.
The disgruntled MNA, who was elected on the PML-N ticket from Gujranwala, also announced that he would contest elections against Defence Minister Khurram Dastgir in the upcoming general polls.
Earlier, two former MPAs including Mazhar Javed and Ghulam Sarwar too announced to leave the party.
Among the local government representatives who left the party are chairmen and vice chairmen of three municipal committees. The chairmen and vice chairmen of 13 union councils also bade adieu to the party.
This was the second setback to the PML-N in the day as earlier the party workers belonging to Gilgit Baltistan chapter decided to launch a movement against the party leadership amid accusations.
The party meeting chaired by GB’s PML-N Vice President Tariq Mir in Rawalpindi said that they had contacted with disgruntled party workers of Hunza and Gilgit via telephone and informed them about the decisions made at the meeting.
According to details of the meeting, GB’s Principal Secretary Sibtain Ahmed’s attitude was the reason behind the discontent. The meeting urged that he should be immediately removed from the post and an honest official be deputed instead.
The participants also sought deputations of the party workers on political slots. The promises made by GB Chief Minister Hafeezur Reham during his elections campaign should be fulfilled, they further demanded.
A policy must be devised to keep a check on the illegal cutting of trees, and the government should immediately initiate measures to resolve the problems of the regional media industry, it concluded.
