Nawaz, Shehbaz discuss political situation at Jati Umra

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday at Jati Umra, Lahore, and discussed the prevailing political situation of the country.

According to a press release, CM Punjab Shehbaz said that the faces of those levelling baseless allegations have been exposed. “Niazi [Imran Khan] is the captain of liars,” remarked Shehbaz Sharif a day after Imran had accused Punjab’s bureaucracy acting on the behalf of the Sharif family. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has displayed worst kind of performance in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, said the CM Punjab.

He further said that any sane person will not give a vote to those doing negative politics. CM Shehbaz is likely to be elected the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court in a decision pertaining to the Elections Act 2017.

The apex court had announced its verdict on petitions challenging the act, ruling that a person disqualified under Article 62 and 63 cannot serve as the head of a political party.

The decision by the three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar is considered another blow to the PML-N and the political career of Nawaz Sharif.
