Govt approves over Rs3b for plantation of 100 million trees

ISLAMABAD: The government has approved an amount of Rs 3.652 billion for plantation of 100 million trees in the country during next five years.

A spokesperson of Climate Change Ministry said in an interview with Radio Pakistan that tree plantation is underway in all the four provinces, and Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Jammu Kashmir and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in different ecological locations.

He said these locations include road and canal sides, rehabilitation and re-stocking of the historical plantation, restoration and improvement of scrub forests, conservation and enhancement of Juniper and Chilghoza forest and others.

The spokesman said Rs 605.172 million were allocated for the campaign during 2017-18 out of which, 242.068 million rupees have been released while 240.424 have been spent.
