LAHORE: A Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) officer-bearer on Saturday expressed fear that the Sharif family may kill Lahore Development Authority’s former director general Ahad Cheema in the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) custody to stop him for revealing their secrets as he demanded the bureau to provide security to the suspect.
Addressing an emergency presser in Lahore, Secretary General Chaudhry Manzoor, flanked by the party leaders, said that the arrest of Cheema means “50 per cent arrest” of Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the arrest of other corrupt officers [after his revelations] will lead to the actual “arrest” of Shehbaz.
He further termed the strike by the District Management Officers (DMG), now known as Pakistan Administrative Services, as treason.
He questioned their motives, saying that why did they not go on a strike when an 18-grade officer was promoted to grade 20, or officers were arrested in Balochistan and Sindh over corruption charges.
“The officers on the strike are proving that they are not loyal to the state but their loyalties lie with the Sharifs,” Manzoor said, adding: “We demand that these officers should not be appointed on important posts till the next general elections.”
The PPP lawyers will appear in this case and would demand action against the corrupt officers, the party’s GS asserted.
It is pertinent to mention that the DMG officers on Friday locked down their offices in protest against the “unlawful arrest” Ahad Cheema. The NAB had arrested Cheema to interrogate him regarding his alleged involvement in the Ashiana Housing Society scam.
