The construction of houses started in Media Town, Hawksbay, on Saturday after 21 years since the land was allocated for the journalists of the city.
Journalists from both print and electronic media participated in the ground breaking ceremony while the media aired news about the constructions activities.
Dozens of journalists, officials of Layari Development Authority and contractors were present to participate in the construction which remained a dream for over 1200 journalists who were allotted plots; several senior members of this housing scheme died before the beginning of this construction.
Karachi Press Club President Ahmed Malik who has the leading role to bring journalists together to build their houses and most of the senior members of KPC body were there for encouraging those willing to live in the Media Town. KPC Secretary Maqsood Yusfi who could not attend the ceremony expressed deep satisfaction over the beginning and extended full support of KPC for the development of this society.
Journalists asked the Sindh government to help them for the construction of their houses, provide basic needs like water and electricity and build roads in and around the Media Town. The land was allocated by the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto in 1997. Journalists asked both Bilawal Butto and Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah to help them for completing the scheme initiated by the late Prime Minister.
