KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly session was adjourned soon after its proceedings began on Friday owing to the demise of sitting member of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani.
The house was adjourned till Monday at 3 pm as no agenda could be taken after the prayer on the next sitting held after the demise of any sitting MPA, as per traditions.
Bijrani who was serving as minister for planning and development was found dead along with his wife Fariha Razzaq Haroon inside their home located in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on February 1. The police claimed after its initial probe that Bajarani had committed suicide after killing his wife probably on domestic issue.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said Bijarani was the youngest person to get elected as a member of the Sindh Assembly in the 1970s. Murad said that Bijarani had honestly served the public as MNA, MPA, senator and federal and provincial minister during his long career.
The resolution was moved by health minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro and was supported by members of all parties. “This assembly expresses its deep grief at the passing of an esteemed member Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani and pays tribute to his selfless services to Sindh and Pakistan, as he served successive terms as an MNA, MPA, Senator and a minister.”
The resolution also said, “The assembly also recognises this seasoned lawmaker for his unwavering commitment and efforts for sustained democracy and pays homage to his decades of contributions to the betterment and development of Sindh. The assembly extends deepest sympathies to his bereaved family, constituents and the people of Sindh.”
The members of both treasury and opposition benches paid glowing tribute to deceased MPA and prayed for the departed soul. The resolution was adopted unanimously.
The house also prayed for late human rights activist Asma Jahangir, actor Qazi Wajid and observed one-minute silence on the demise of the mother of Nand Kumar Mallani, the Pakistan Muslim League-Fictional parliamentary leader.
