Not expecting justice for Nawaz Sharif from accountability court: PM

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Thursday said that amid prevailing circumstances, it seemed as Nawaz Sharif would get no justice from the accountability court; however, the government would implement the verdict without either way.

“This is not only my viewpoint. This is the viewpoint of every citizen of Pakistan. I am telling you the viewpoint of a common man,  the viewpoint of my constituency, the viewpoint of the people wherever I go,” he remarked in an interview with a private news channel.

He said that when no evidence could be furnished before the Supreme Court [during the Panama case trial] as well as the joint investigation team (JIT), now what evidence was left to be produced before the accountability court.

He also questioned the rationale behind the frequent hearings in Nawaz Sharif’s case when there had been cases of mega scandals laying with the National Accountability Bureau.

“Is Nawaz Sharif the biggest accused in the country, who has to appear in two or three hearings every week and faces fresh allegations daily,” he questioned.

Separately, PM Abbasi said former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been disqualified from the premiership and party presidency, but how will “they dislodge him from the hearts of people”.

He made these remarks during a meeting with MNA Ejazul Haq who called on the PM.

Ejaz ul Haq assured PM of his full support as both shared views on the Supreme Court’s verdict and political situation in the country.

The prime minister said that the general elections will take place as per schedule, adding that only democracy can bring development to the country.
