ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage Marriyum Aurangzeb on Thursday said former premier Nawaz Sharif would choose the next president of Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) himself after consulting with the party leaders.
Addressing the media outside an accountability court, she said that the party leaders would soon meet to discuss the future strategy and Nawaz would announce the next PML-N president himself after consulting the senior leadership of the party.
Talking about Supreme Court (SC)’s verdict which declared Nawaz ineligible from holding a party office, she said that the verdict violated his fundamental rights.
She said that the court was delivering verdict after verdict when even PML-N’s political opponents had admitted that SC’s verdict in Panama Papers case was a weak one. To defend a weak decision, similar verdicts had to be scribbled, she added.
Marriyum said that all the verdicts that would come against the former premier had already been authored.
She further said that the court should try to find a constitutional interpretation for disqualifying Nawaz’s voters and those who loved him from the core of their hearts. She further said that the court verdicts had led to an exponential increase in the former premier’s popularity.
