PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday sought response from the Election Commision of Pakistan (ECP) in a petition pertaining to the provision of voting rights for the transgender and intersex community in the upcoming general elections.

The petition was filed by the Transaction Alliance, the organisation working for the rights and welfare of transgender and intersex community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The petition pleaded with the court to instruct the ECP to create a column for the community on nomination forms so they can contest the elections as well.

In addition, the high court was requested to ensure that a proper environment is in place to prevent harassment at polling booths.
