Govt failed to provide basic amenities to the people: Fahmida Mirza

BADIN: Federal and provincial government had failed to provide basic amenities to the people of Pakistan, said former National Assembly speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza.

Addressing the journalists at Badin Press Club telephonically, she said that people of Badin were facing acute water shortage, unannounced electricity outages and gas load-shedding. She said that the Parliament had failed to protect the rights of the people.

She further said that the talk of the town was about the supremacy of the Parliament but on the floor of the Parliament, she was prohibited from raising her voice against injustice.

She said that the federal and provincial governments were not interested in resolving the issues of the masses. The government had failed to facilitate the masses in accordance with article 37 and 38 and the agreement regarding the elimination of poverty was not implemented.

The former speaker said that there were no development and welfare schemes for Badin where the rate of unemployment and economic instability was increasing.

She lauded the steps taken by the water commission and demanded that the directives of the water commission be implemented. She said that if the government failed to provide the basic rights and amenities to the people, she would knock the doors of the honourable courts to seek the rights of the people and would raise her voice at every forum.
