KARACHI: Justice Munib Akhtar headed a two-member bench hearing a case concerning the implementation of its previous judgment which directed Sindh Inspector General Police (IGP) AD Khowaja to complete his three-year tenure and for Sindh government to draft new rules pertaining to transfers and postings in the police department.

The two judges came down hard on the Sindh government for delaying the drafting of police rules that are in line with the judgement. Assistant Advocate General Shabbir Shah replied that the government had taken a number of initiatives in compliance with the court’s orders. He further said the Sindh IG was being summoned regularly to attend cabinet meetings, adding that the Sindh government and Sindh IG are on the same page.

A committee headed by the Sindh advocate general has also been formed to propose changes in the existing police rules. During the previous hearing, AD Khowaja informed that he drafted new police rules in agreement with the judgement and sent to the Sindh cabinet for consideration.

Advocate Faisal Siddiqui, however, argued that the Sindh chief minister and cabinet didn’t implement the court orders despite its clear-cut directions.
