Polio team allegedly attacked by school administration in Karachi

KARACHI: A four-member anti-polio vaccination team was allegedly attacked by a school’s administration in Nazimabad area on Tuesday after the team tried to vaccinate the students against polio. The team was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Sheikh Rafiq.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered against the school administration at Nazimabad police station in which the assistant commissioner was nominated as the complainant. The institution was resultantly sealed.

According to a private media outlet, the health workers had earlier visited the school to administer the polio vaccine to the students, however, the school allegedly denied the polio team an access into the school. Following that, a polio team again reached the school and insisted that the school officials not hinder them in their work.

Despite continuous insistence from the polio team, the school administration allegedly refused physically attacked the health workers, as well as the assistant commissioner. It is said that the vehicle used by the health workers was also damaged.

Sindh Inspector General AD Khawaja ordered the concerned senior superintendent of police to submit a detailed report of the incident.
