PGILJ observes World Day of Social Justice

LAHORE: Pakistan Global Initiative for Law and Justice (PGILJ) on Tuesday observed the “World Day of Social Justice” at the Lahore High Court Bar Association.

Holding a conference titled “Citizens Democratic Rights & State Responsibilities” in collaboration with the Pak-US Alumni Network and the Lahore High Court Bar Association, the PGILJ emphasised over the provision of fundamental rights of the people in the country.

The organisation’s Chief Executive Officer Mukhdoom Waseem Qureshi said, “Being a responsible citizen of the society lets promise on this day to promote and protect the democratic rights of all human beings for the eradication of injustice, corruption, unemployment and poverty by creating future voices.”

He also said that everyone needed to play his or her role to make Pakistan a prosperous state.

A large number of male and female civil society activists, students, lawyers, minority communities’ leaders and others took part in the conference. Former NAB prosecutor general Waqas Qadeer Dar said that under Article 1 of the universal declaration of human rights, all human beings were born free and had equal rights. “All human beings are endowed with reasons and consciences and should act together in the spirit of brotherhood,” he added.

Dean of Lahore Church Shahid Miraj said that promotion of peace through dialogue and exchange of ideas was the need of the hour because a tolerant society was the only factor of change anywhere in the world. “The Pakistan government should promote its through federation by launching a provincial harmony campaign,” he said.
