ISLAMABAD: Former finance minister Ishaq Dar on Monday withdrew his nomination papers on the general seat; however, the ex-minister will still contest the elections from the technocrat’s seat.

Earlier, the Lahore High Court had allowed Dar to contest Senate election after he had filed an application challenging the election watchdog’s decision.

The Election Commission of Pakistan on Febuary 12 had rejected Dar’s nomination papers for not providing the verified declaration of election expenses.

The general seat nominees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) chief Samiul Haq and Moulana Abdul Wasay also pulled out.

Monday was the last day to withdraw nomination papers for the Senate elections from the provinces.

The Senate elections are scheduled to be held on March 3 and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is expected to win all the 12 seats because of majority it enjoys in the Punjab Assembly.
