KARACHI: A resolution condemning Pakistan People’s (PPP) Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has been submitted in the Sindh Assembly on Monday for defending former Malir SSP [Senior Superintendent Police] Rao Anwar.

The resolution was tabled by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Khurram Sher Zaman in which, he criticised Zardari for calling Anwar, who killed innocent people in fake encounters, a “brave kid”.

The resolution further demanded Zardari to apologise from the people of Karachi.

A similar resolution against the PPP co-chairman was also filed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Monday.

In an interview with a private media outlet Thursday night, Zardari came out in support of Anwar, calling him a “brave child” who survived the fight against “the militant wing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)”.

“Out of total 54 SHOs, only one, Rao Anwar, survived the MQM when it came back into power,” Zardari had said. “54 SHOs participated in operation under General Naseerullah Babar, among which 53 were killed, only he survived.”

Speaking on Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case, he said that “everybody should step back and look at it again”.

However, later a statement was issued by party Senator Farhatullah Babar which said that Asif Ali Zardari “regretted his remarks” which were “misspoken”.
