ISLAMABAD: Federal Education and Professional Training Minister Muhammad Balighur Rehman on Monday said that the incumbent government allocated record funds for education the education sector, in particular to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) whose budget witnessed a record increase of up to Rs107 billion.
Giving a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, the minister said that the budget for HEC had been increased from Rs 14 billion in 2012 to the current the record level during the current fiscal year.
The committee that met with Senator Nuzat Sadiq in the chair, passed two bills, including ‘National Civic Education Commission Bill 2018’ moved by Senator Sehar Kamran, and ‘National Skills University Islamabad’ bill moved by Balighur Rehman.
The minister informed the committee that civic education was necessary for improving the health condition of the people, adding that syllabus was being prepared for class one to five which would be promulgated soon.
Discussing the second bill concerning the upgradation of National Institute of Science and Technical Education (NISRE) to National Skill University, the parliamentarians said that it would be the first-ever skill development varsity of the country.
Senator Sehar Kamran remarked that certificate of technical education would be beneficial for students to establish their own business or service providing company, adding that certified skilled trained manpower had high demand internationally but Pakistani citizens lost this important slot just because of lack of this facility in our country.
Replying to a query, the minister for education briefed that the National Skill University would cover all the technical courses from technology to health-related disciplines.
