Scope of Regional Blood Centres to be expanded: Kh Salman

LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education (SH&ME) Khawaja Salman Rafique on Sunday presided over a meeting regarding the expansion of services of Regional Blood Centres in Multan and Bahawalpur.

Punjab Minister for Primary and Secondary Health Khawaja Imran Nazir, Secretary Health Ali Jan Khan, SH&ME Special Secretary Dr Sajid Chouhan, Dr Abdul Bari of Indus Trust Hospital, Punjab Blood Transfusion Authority Secretary Dr Mohammad Ather, Institute of Blood Transfusion Services (IBTS) Director Dr Zafar Iqbal, members of the trust and other officers concerned also attended the meeting.

The meeting discussed the measures and the plans for the provision of high-quality blood and blood products to more areas of the province from Regional Blood Centres. Various measures to widen the areas of services were also deliberated upon.

Khawaja Salman Rafique said on the occasion that more areas of South Punjab were being linked with Regional Blood Centres. The meeting approved the establishment of similar blood centres in Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi.

The minister explained that the government was linking more areas with blood centres to provide safe and healthy blood and blood products to all deserving patients. Rafique said that Regional Blood Centres would prove helpful in eradicating the business of substandard and inadequate blood banks from the province.
