PU teachers hail govt’s support for restoring peace inside campus

LAHORE: Member of Punjab University Academic Staff Association (PUASA) expressed their gratitude to the provincial government and Punjab University (PU) administration for taking action against violent elements and restoring peace inside the campus.

According to details, PUASA office bearers Dr Azhar Naeem, Dr Ayub Afridi, Naeem Ullah, syndicate members Professor Dr Sajid Rashid, Dr Mahboob Hussain and others hailed the efforts of Chief Minister (CM) Shehbaz Sharif, Minister for Higher Education Syed Raza Ali Gillani, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains, Operations Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Dr Haider Ashraf, and Iqbal Town Superintendent of Police Umer Farooq for extending full support to PU administration in order to ensure that peace returned to PU campus.

The members said that few students wanted to disrupt academic and research environment of the varsity. They appreciated the role of the PU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Zakria Zakar for maintaining neutrality in the matter.

Taking a stern action against the students involved in affecting the law and order situation on campus on January 22, the PU administration had expelled 13 students belonging to the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) and four students belonging to the Pashtun-Baloch student organisations during the first phase of disciplinary action, the members added.

“We stand behind PU administration regarding taking stern disciplinary action against the rogue elements without any discrimination. The teachers’ fraternity would not tolerate such elements who try to harm the peace and tranquillity inside the varsity,” they said. No pressure should be tolerated in this regard, they added.
