THARPARKAR: A cricket tournament was held on Saturday in Thar’s Islamkot town in which female students from the Thar Foundation-run schools in villages Bitra, Tharyo Halepoto, and Mansingh Bheel participated.
As part of the Thar Foundation’s larger agenda to empower women in all fields and after a successful launch of its women dump truck driving program, the Foundation marks the history of Thar by initiating girls-specific sports competitions and events in the area.
Teachers and families of the playing girls, as well as the Thar Foundation (TF) staff, participated to support the young players.
According to a statement issued by the TF, the first match was played between the teams of Mansingh Bheel and Thario Halepoto in which the latter after a tough competition.
The final match of the tournament was played between the Thario Halepoto and Bitra teams. After an interesting competition, the Bitra won the match to grab the trophy.
The awards and trophies were presented to the respective teams by the Foundation’s Manager Education Sabeen Shah and other Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) officials.
Speaking at the occasion, Shah said that the Thari girls have an immense confidence and talent to compete with the others in any field.
“Our aim besides giving them a good education is to provide them with opportunities in the field of sports so that they assert their talent and brighten the name of their families and their land,” said Shah
She added that since sports are proven to boost self-confidence, such competitions will add to the development of their personality for good.
“This is why,” Shah reaffirmed, “the Thar Foundation will keep on organizing more sports events for the youngsters of Thar, boys and girls alike.”
SECMC senior officials including Ahmed Munib, Fayyaz Soomro, Kamran Hussain and Engro Powergen Thar Limited officials Farhan Ansari and Raja Touqeer were also present among others to witness the remarkable event.
