LAHORE: A colourful sports gala of the Government College University (GCU) Lahore’s Department of Political Science was held on Saturday at the university’s Oval Ground.
Besides students, the department’s faculty members also participated in the event which was marked by athletics meet, colourful Gymkhana events and cricket matches.
Speaking on the occasion, GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Hassan Amir Shah said that sports should be widely promoted in educational institutions to curb the inclination of youth towards negative and unhealthy activities. He said that it must be declared mandatory for schools, colleges and universities to have ample sports facilities for their students.
GCU Political Science Department Chairperson Prof Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt said that his department’s achievements in national and international sports events were no less impressive than what they had achieved in academics. He also distributed shields and souvenirs among the winners of different competitions.
The event featured different matches, girls’ chatti race, tug of war, musical chairs, and races for boys, girls and members of the faculty.
