During the meeting, Omar Ayub said that he had complete confidence in the PTI leadership, as well as, its manifesto. The meeting was also attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak.

During his political career, Omar Ayub has served in the capacity of minister of state for finance between 2004 to 2007 during the tenure of former military dictator Pervez Musharraf. In 2012, he announced to join Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and was elected as a member of the National Assembly (MNA) from NA-19 in the by-elections held after the general elections of 2013.

In 2015, Omar Ayub decided against participating in the re-election after facing a long legal and electoral battle with his opponent from the constituency. He had bowed out of the contest after saying that his mother was ill and needed constant care.
