LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said that the first cancer hospital where free treatment facilities would be provided for all kinds of cancer would be established soon after the elections of 2018.
Addressing the participants after the inauguration ceremony of the Government THQ Hospital Sabzazar, he said that best Pakistani doctors working across the globe would be extended invitations to return back home and serve their people at the hospital. The expatriate medical professionals would be offered to join the institution so that the patients could get the best medical facilities, said Shehbaz.
“If the people re-elect us in the elections of 2018, the foundation stone of the cancer hospital would be laid in September so that the promise of provision of best treatment facilities to combat a fatal disease like cancer can be fulfilled,” he said.
The chief minister said that a culture of service would be introduced in hospitals to provide better healthcare service to the people and instead of adoption of any impolite or harsh attitude, the patients would be treated with love and affection and there would be no strike or maladministration in the hospitals. He also said the surgical, as well as the other newly developed wards of the Mayo Hospital, gave the impression of a modern European hospital because of the high-quality treatment facilities including doctors, nurses, paramedics and purpose-built buildings available there.
“The hospitals established in Sabzazar, Manawan and Raiwind are serving the people of the areas and the mother and child hospital in Lidhar is functional,” he said while adding that the hospital in Kahna and other hospitals were nearing completion.
The chief minister said that public service was the core vision of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), and Muhammad Nawaz Sharif gave the innovative project of Motorway in addition to a marvelous project of concrete roads in villages. Under this vision, thousands of kilometres of roads were constructed in different villages during the last four and a half years by spending an amount of Rs85 billion in the province. In this regard, the efforts of the C&W department were praiseworthy, he added.
Shehbaz said that Iqbal and Jinnah had dreamt of a Pakistan where all the people would have equal opportunities and that the promotion of this cross-cultural understanding was the PML-N government’s mission. He said that sports gymnasiums were being established in Lahore as well as in other parts of the province where high-quality sports facilities including swimming pools were being provided to the youth. “Our mission is public service and serving the humanity and we will continue to serve the masses with honesty, sincerity and trust,” he said.
MNA Mehar Ishtiaq Ahmad, provincial minister Khawaja Imran Nazir, MPA Mian Marghob Ahmad and Indus Regional Board CEO Dr Abdul Bari Khan also spoke on the occasion. Provincial Ministers Khawaja Salman Rafiq, Syed Zaeem Qadri, Lord Mayor Lahore Col (r) Mubasher Javed, local leaders and workers were also present.
Separately, members of assembly belonging to different districts called on the Punjab chief minister on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that he was thankful to Allah for the historic victory in the Lodhran by-poll.
He said that instead of serving the masses, the elements involved in sit-ins had wasted time on baseless allegations and their performance was equal to zero. On the contrary, the chief minister said, the PML-N-led government considered public service a sacred cause and historic steps were being taken for national development and prosperity of the people.
Similarly, unprecedented steps were taken to develop southern Punjab where billions of rupees were spent on a number of development projects and ongoing development schemes to benefit the people. He said that he and his team were burning the midnight oil for public welfare and made it clear that he would never deviate from the mission of public service.
The chief minister said that the PML-N government believed in practical steps instead of hollow sloganeering and every step was being taken for the welfare of the masses. The government was implementing a practical agenda to improve the quality of life of the people, he said.
