Rural development schemes should be given preference: Rawalpindi deputy commissioner

RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Talat Mehmood on Friday directed the officials concerned to complete the development schemes in rural areas by giving preference to the health and education sectors, along with infrastructure and construction of roads.

He expressed these views while chairing a review meeting of development projects in rural areas at Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Office. Special Assistant Hafiz Usman, Attique Sarwar, Arshad Abbasi, Education Authority Chief Executive Officer Tariq Qazi, Highways SE, buildings and other officers concerned also attended the meeting.

Mehmood also ordered the officers concerned to remove saw machines which were illegally installed in the forests of Kotli Sattian and directed them to make sure that no such machine was found in the radius of five kilometres of forested areas.

While reviewing the detailed report presented by all departments regarding headway of development schemes in rural areas, the deputy commissioner said that along with the maintenance and repair of roads, an updated report of Tehsil Headquarters Hospitals (THQs), Basic Health Units (BHU) and dispensaries should also be presented to the committee at the earliest.

He said that 33 schemes of water supply have been completed while work was in progress on four other schemes which would be completed swiftly. Mehmood further directed the officials concerned to highlight the points of clean drinking water in Kotli Sattian. Moreover, he said that Punjab Highway Department had also been directed to repair 24 roads in rural areas on priority basis.
