ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Mian Raza Rabbani, while addressing participants of an event hosted by Azmat Foundation to share the achievements and success story of Akhuwat, the world’s largest interest-free microfinance provider, said that the passion of service to humanity and downtrodden community is the hallmark of the society but the state was working only for the elite. He observed that unfortunately, after every five or six years, the government announces an amnesty scheme to waive off loans borrowed by the elite. He said that such policies had brought the country under economic stress and the situation had gone from bad to worse as amnesty schemes were not the remedy for the problems.
He said that Akhuwat had made a difference in this regard as its target communities are poor and destitute. Mian Raza Rabbani appreciated the achievement of Akhuwat who brought socio-economic change in the lives of the marginalised segments of the society and said that the poor and working class of the country wants to work with honesty and devotion and there was a dire need to patronise them. Senate chairman also lauded Akhuwat’s collaboration with Azmat Foundation and said that the establishment of a school for out-of-school children belonging to poor communities was a step in the right direction. He said that there were many individuals who really want to serve the community but they remain unnoticed and there was a need to highlight their contributions. He wished success for both Akhuwat and Azmat Foundation in their endeavors to share the burden of the society, especially of the poor and deprived communities.
Akhuwat CEE Dr Amjed Saqib, former Naval Chief Asif Sandhela, Azmat Foundation Director Nasir Nazir Dar, Minister for Human Rights Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar, Senators and people from different walks of life attended the event.
