- FATA people get Rs 0.3 m in compensation whereas rest of the country gets Rs 0.5 m
ISLAMABAD: People belonging to Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) once again face discrimination as compared to Rs 0.5 million compensation for terror victims in rest of the country, they are being paid only Rs 0.3 m.
Minister for States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) Abdul Qadir Baloch informed Senate on Friday that the government was mulling to remove this gap and a decision in this regard would be made soon.
He said that a sum of Rs 0.3 million is being paid to FATA’s victim families as compared to a sum of Rs 0.5 million for the rest of the country.
Abdul Qadir Baloch told the upper house that 3, 904 persons belonging to FATA were killed as a result of the terror incidents during the last five years. He called the need to devise an appropriate strategy for those families who have had lost men in the war against terrorism.
He further said that an amount of 331.86 million rupees has been disbursed as compensation to the victims of terrorist incidents in the tribal areas.
He said that for a damaged house, a compensation of Rs 400, 000 each is being given to the families in tribal areas, adding that one hundred billion rupees will be spent each year for a period of ten years for the region’s development.
Reply a question raised by Senator Taj, he said the government and opposition can jointly work to establish a separate institution for rehabilitation of terror-affected areas.
He said $ 100 billion with the US cooperation has been provided for the restoration of structure in FATA, which will be spent on rehabilitation of projects, including hospitals and bridges.
