ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar said on Thursday that the Punjab Police is still giving promotions to officers who are facing charges of extrajudicial killings.
Hearing the out-of-turn promotion case in Islamabad, the CJP said that out of turn promotions could not be allowed in Punjab as they have already been banned in Sindh.
In conversation with Advocate Khawaja Haris, the CJP said he could not ignore the officers who were promoted in an unjust manner as the court has to provide justice.
The CJP also noted that it had become very common to kill people in police encounters in order to get promotions.
He said that certain rules of engagement need to be developed even if it hinders police work,” Nisar told the courtroom.
Further proceedings of the case have been postponed until Monday.
