NSA Janjua, Spanish envoy discuss regional security, anti-terror efforts

ISLAMABAD: National Security Adviser Nasser Khan Janjua and Spain’s Foreign Secretary Ildefonso Casto Lopez on Thursday discussed the regional security situation, counterterrorism cooperation and Pakistan’s peacekeeping efforts in the region.

The secretary along with the Spanish ambassador called on NSA Janjua at his office in the afternoon.

The NSA warmly welcomed the guests and said that Pakistan considers Spain a close friend and deeply values its relations with it.

Giving a comprehensive briefing on regional security situation to the Spanish envoys, the NSA highlighted the sacrifices rendered by Pakistani people and its armed forces in the on going war against terrorism. He reiterated that Pakistan stands on the right side of history and it has always stood up for the world for peace and prosperity.

Discussing the situation in Afghanistan, the NSA stressed upon the fact that there is a dire need to end the sufferings of Afghanistan and its people.  “Instead of winning the war in Afghanistan, the world must cooperate to seek the closure of this conflict which can be made possible by way of political processes,” the NSA asserted Pakistan’s stance on the issue.

He underscored that Pakistan wants to work in a cooperative framework for peace and prosperity of Afghanistan and of the region. “We share our future with Afghanistan” he added.

The foreign secretary of Spain is visiting Pakistan for the 4th Session of Bilateral Political Consultations.
